Jason Millar, Managing Director of JPM Holdings Limited, has been involved in the transport industry since leaving school. Starting as a courier driver, he worked up to bigger vehicles when he became an owner-driver at 19 years old. Jason started JPM Holdings with just one van.
Today, JPM Holdings is one of the country’s top line haul transport operators. The business has a multi-million dollar turnover, a fleet of trucks, a depot in Hornby, and staff around the South Island.
The successful performance of JPM Holdings has allowed it to develop and pursue other business interests. The company successfully operates under a very lean management structure, with Jason as Managing Director. A Manager handles the day-to-day details, sorting the last-minute changes that are an intrinsic aspect of the industry. Jason also employs an accounts person to oversee daily finances.
Jason spends most of his time working “on” the business, analysing what’s working, what’s not, how to improve things, and generally just concentrating on those parts of business that need work. However, he also ensures he has time to get his hands on the wheel when needed – Jason believes this keeps him “in the know” with what’s going on in his business, and it shows his team he’s prepared to get his hands dirty.
